![]() Baseball ACCtion: Monday, February 25
Feb. 25, 2008 Chants edge Hokies in extra innings Dock Doyle's run-scoring single in the bottom of the 10th inning propelled Coastal Carolina to a 4-3 extra-inning victory over Virginia Tech on Monday afternoon in the IMICHotels.com INN-vational at Coastal's Mason Stadium. Coastal, now 4-0 on the young season, had been held scoreless for five straight innings before they plated the winning run. The inning started with right fielder Scott Woodward reaching base when he was hit by a pitch from Tech junior reliever Rhett Ballard (High Point, N.C.). It marked the third straight inning that Ballard had hit a batter with a pitch. Woodward moved to second when pitcher David Anderson's sacrifice bunt turned into an infield single when the Hokies where unable to get an out. Doyle then laced a single to right to provide the Chanticleers with their second straight 4-3 win over the Hokies. The Hokies, who left runners in scoring position in five of the last six innings, were victims of four double plays and had two runners thrown out at the plate. Tech had a golden opportunity in the ninth, when it had men at first and third with nobody out, but was unable to push a run across.
