GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech senior Kristen Callan and Duke junior Maddie McKeever headline the 2008 All-ACC Academic Women’s Track & Field team as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford.

Callan, an education major at Virginia Tech, a two-time All-ACC academic team selection and three-time ACC honor roll member, was selected as the ACC Outdoor Women’s Track and Field scholar-athlete of the year. On the indoor side, Duke’s McKeever, a two-time ESPN The Magazine/ CoSIDa Academic All-American, was named ACC Indoor Women’s Track and Field scholar-athlete of the year.

Athletically, Callan is a three-time NCAA All-American in the hammer throw as well as an NCAA All-American in the indoor weight throw. She has tallied four combined All-ACC honors between indoor and outdoor seasons, as well as three ACC team titles.

McKeever won the 5,000m at the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships, held earlier in the spring. She posted a third place finish in the event at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships to claim her fifth All-American honor as a Blue Devil.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career. The 43-member team had 17 All-ACC performers as well as six NCAA All-Americans. There were 13 student-athletes who made repeat appearances on the team.

Virginia Tech led all conference schools with eight selections to the team. Boston College snagged six members, while five teams placed four studentathletes on the team, including; Florida State, Georgia Tech and North Carolina. Clemson, Maryland and Virginia each had three honorees while Duke, Wake Forest and Miami each had two. North Carolina State rounded out the team with one selection.
